July graveyard shift
I just came off an all nighter for my July graveyard shift at 3RRR. You can listen back to the show if you want to hear me presenting four hours of awesome tunes.
I found an empty tube that used to hold tissues in the glovebox of my car. I thought it would be cool to open the sealed end and then use the round tube as a way to “frame” the scene as it is being shot. I love the way the whole video changes as soon as the camera starts filming through the tube, it gives it a completely different feel.
My house also looks amazingly clean through the tube. It’s a shame the effect doesn’t carry through into the real world ;)
While we’re on the subject of post-industrial media…

Danny Boyle (director of one of my all-time favourite films) was recently interviewed by Mashable at SXSW. He has some interesting things to say about the use of mobile technologies and the future of filmmaking that fit in well with the points raised in the first lecture.

The round object in this sketch is the plug/sinkhole. I wanted to emphasise the roundness of the sinkhole by showing the water drain out in a circular pattern. I experimented over a few different takes, adjusting the water level to a height where there would be enough gravitational pull to visibly show the water going down the drain (but not so high that the total duration of the clip would exceed 10 seconds.)
