I’ve been a Crackberry addict for most of the last decade.
When I got my first Blackberry (thanks Dad!) I actually hated it for a good 2-3 weeks. The learning curve was steep but once I “got” it, there was no way in the world I was going to switch to anything else. People complain about lack of apps and “who even uses Blackberry anymore?” and blah blah blah. Whatever. Once you learn the BB OS, you realise that it’s the best and most intuitive phone OS out there. Especially BB10.
(Now is not the time or place to go into why, but feel free to get in touch and I’ll wax lyrical about it for hours!)
The contract is almost out on my Z10 and I was getting worried about what I could upgrade to because none of the major phone carriers seem to carry Blackberry anymore. Then I read that Blackberry wasn’t going to sell to consumers anymore, just business and government customers*. I was at the point where I was ready to move to an iPhone simply because there appeared to be no other choice.
(No, I don’t want your stupid Google or Windows phone. And spending six hours with my husband’s iPhone was enough to turn me off forever. Again, that’s another story.)
As it turns out, fate seemed to err on the side of FTW! because – on the very day that I gave up on the idea of getting a new Blackberry – Optus launched a contest to win a Blackberry Passport!
@Optus To Canada, to visit @Blackberry HQ! <3 I hope the Canadians will let me drink Maple syrup straight from the tree taps! #YesPassport

A couple of weeks later, as I was literally boarding my flight to Vanuatu, I received the serendipitous news:
Congratulations to @sonieee and @iamno_33 our winners of the @BlackBerry competition – each taking away a brand new #BlackBerryPassport!

OH YEAAAAAAAAAAAH!
So guess what arrived in the mail today?
YEP.
I’ll probably be spending the better part of the next three days playing with my new toy but I’ll be sure to post in-depth about it very soon.
THANKS OPTUS ! ! !
*I think that this is a good move – especially if it means BB will live to fight another day – but obviously it sucks if it means that I can’t get my hands on them in the future!
